Mission Milestones & Highlights — MAS for Diplomats

FDU Magazine Online - Summer/Fall 2008

The master of administrative science degree program offers a concentration in diplomacy and international relations. The program is structured to meet the career-development needs of adult learners working in diplomatic positions as well as those at international agencies and not-for-profit organizations. Its primary purpose is to enhance the administrative skills of its graduates and to facilitate the understanding of international issues. Classes are given in both English and Spanish.

The program offers:

  • 30 credits in relevant courses for diplomatic personnel; and

  • Classes held at the headquarters of embassies and consulates in New York City and online anywhere in the world.

Currently, 20 diplomats from eight Latin-American countries are enrolled in the program. An English version of the program is offered at the Chilean Consulate with 31 diplomats from Greece, Morocco, Sri Lanka, Oman, Germany, Niger, Afghanistan, Swaziland, Angola, Belgium, Sudan and Sierra Leone enrolled.

Each year, graduates of the program are invited to serve as members of the FDU President’s Global Advisory Council. There were 51 graduate students in the program during the 2008–2009 academic year.

Participants in the program have included Ibrahim Abani, ambassador of Niger; Fuad Al-Hinai, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Oman; and Francisco Rocha, consul general of Colombia.
