Mission Milestones & Highlights — Global Virtual Faculty

FDU Magazine Online - Summer/Fall 2008

The Global Virtual Faculty™ (GVF) program, created in 2001, brings scholars and practitioners from around the world into the classroom through Web-based technologies.

Through e-mail and Internet discussion boards, the Global Virtual Faculty members interact with students and faculty, offer insights on course topics and present relevant material for consideration. Campus faculty remain responsible for the curriculum and guide the involvement of the GVF members.

More than 60 GVF members have contributed to courses. These include a former head homicide investigator for Scotland Yard, an Indian journalist, a literature professor from Senegal, a Japanese research scientist, a Hungarian environmentalist, a Malaysian economics professor, a psychologist from South Africa, a political scientist from Chile and an official from the U.N. Department of Peacekeeping Operations.

The Global Virtual Faculty program has earned special recognition from the American Council of Education and AT&T for its use of technology as a tool for internationalizing the curriculum along with a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
