About the Collaboration

Coming of Age in a Globalized World: The Next Generation, written by Fairleigh Dickinson University President J. Michael Adams and Angelo Carfagna, MA’98 [political science] (T), FDU’s director of communications and executive editor of FDU Magazine, was published in February by Kumarian Press, Bloomfield, Conn.

Adams said, “We wrote this book because we wanted to explain what globalization means and how it dramatically impacts everyone on the globe. We see changes all around us, but how should we react? The answer really comes down to adopting a global perspective and thinking and acting like world citizens. We attempt to explain what this involves and how educators can help cultivate world citizens.”

While the text is primarily designed for college students who may not be familiar with the many facets of globalization, global education and world citizenship, Car-fagna said that anyone interested in understanding the changes taking place in the world and concerned for the future will find something of interest.

Shashi Tharoor, the undersecretary-general for communications and public information at the United Nations, said, “Adams and Carfagna offer an antidote to the abundance of confusing and conflicting works on the subject of globalization. We should accept their invitation to embrace global perspectives and work together to shape a better world.”
