June Schlueter

June Schlueter, BA’70 (R), is the provost and Charles A. Dana Professor of English at Lafayette College, Easton, Pa., as well as a member of Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Board of Trustees. Schlueter is the co-editor, along with James Lusardi, of Shakespeare Bulletin, a journal of performance criticism and scholarship. Now in its 20th year of publication, Shakespeare Bulletin is the only Shakespeare journal that focuses on performance. Schlueter and Lusardi also have published numerous works on Shakespeare in performance. Together, they have authored a book, Reading Shakespeare in Performance: King Lear. Schlueter also has edited a collection of essays on “The Two Gentleman of Verona.” A few years ago, Schlueter made an important discovery about one of the few extant Shakespearean documents: the drawing of “Titus Andronicus,” Shakespeare’s first tragedy. Previously considered the only contemporary drawing of a Shakespeare play in performance, Schlueter believes the so-called “Peacham drawing” may be a drawing of a play performed in Germany in the early 17th century, which may or may not have been by Shakespeare.
