Stephen Hollis

Stephen Hollis joined Fairleigh Dickinson last year as the director of the new theater arts program. Originally trained as an assistant director with the Royal Shakespeare Company in London, England, Hollis worked with the Citizens Theatre Company in Glasgow, Scotland, before being appointed artistic director of Watford Palace Theatre, a leading repertory theater near London. Since making New York City his home, Hollis has directed at the Manhattan Theatre Club, Roundabout Theatre Company, The Pearl Theatre Company and many of the leading repertory companies and Shakespeare Festivals around the country. He has also taught and guest directed at The Juilliard School, Stella Adler Studio of Acting, Circle in the Square Theatre School, Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and the State University of New York, Purchase.

In the new theater arts program, established in 2000, students specialize in diverse areas of theater such as acting, design, directing, playwrighting, and theory and literature. They begin their studies on the Florham-Madison Campus and spend a semester at Wroxton College in England studying Shakespeare and others. They then will study at the Teaneck-Hackensack Campus, complete the program and participate in unique internship opportunities afforded by the campus’s proximity to New York City.
