About the Author: Katharine Loeb

Katharine Loeb is associate professor in Fairleigh Dickinson University’s School of Psychology and director of research at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine’s Eating and Weight Disorders Program, which she founded. Her passion for teaching future psychologists attracted her to the FDU School of Psychology, where she developed an outstanding reputation not only for her teaching skills, but also for her mentorship in research and clinical domains. In particular, she has involved students in her eating disorder and obesity studies, in which they focus on psychological interventions for serious disorders and conditions.

Loeb received a National Institute of Mental Health grant to treat youths with eating disorders who are at high risk for developing anorexia nervosa. She also earned a grant from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development focusing on overweight and obese adolescents. In both projects, she is utilizing family-based intervention, enlisting parents as the primary agents of change and permitting nutritional treatment at home.

Highly respected in her field, Loeb has an extensive scientific publication portfolio and has authored several papers on improving the early identification and treatment of eating disorders. She co-chaired the revision of the eating disorders section for the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders and is currently co-chair of the Child and Adolescent Special Interest Group of the Academy for Eating Disorders.

Those interested in participating in Loeb’s studies should call 212-659-8724.
