Nations First Distance-learning Psychopharmacology Program The School of Psychology on the Teaneck-Hackensack Campus is home to the nations first distance-learning psychopharmacology program for psychologists. The two-year postdoctoral training program, directed by Robert McGrath, professor of psychology, was established for psychologists, who are increasingly called upon to serve as collaborators in the medication management of their patients. McGrath says, The program prepares psychologists to expand their scope of clinical practice when individual state legislatures approve prescribing privileges for psychologists. The School of Psychology has teamed with Global HealthEd, using the distance-learning approach of the Compass Learning System, which allows students to complete the program and maintain their current professional careers. The program combines expert video presentation, Internet content, printed materials and one-on-one academic guidance. Stephen Wells, chief information and marketing officer for Compass Knowledge Holdings, Inc., of Ocoee, Fla., says Fairleigh Dickinson University was chosen to offer the program based on the schools excellence in clinical psychology and its high standing in the field of psychopharmacology. Christopher Capuano, director of the School of Psychology, says, The program uses faculty from FDU and other leading universities for the delivery of different components of the postdoctoral program. All courses require two meetings face-to-face with course facilitators. Each course grants 48 Continuing Professional Education Credits for Psychologists. After completion of the 10 courses, practitioners are eligible to enroll in the clinical practicum as specified by the American Psychological Association-model curriculum.
